'The Suburbs' is the title track from the forthcoming Arcade Fire album due out early August, their third album. I've been eagerly awaiting new Arcade Fire material for a long time now so this is exciting!!
Arcade Fire wanna be your local community band, and from the exterior thats the image 'The Suburbs' promotes, with catchy pop guitar progressions that aren't racy, but rather, pedestrian. Not that is is a bad thing, Win Butler and Co do it well.
Despite this sunny exterior however, as always, this song has layers, and lyrics like about fights and bombs suggesting all is not perfect in the suburbs. The lyrics present an earnest perspective on life, and the sound is more accessible that past material, certainly a catchy pop tune but it lacks the grand feeling of 'Rebellion' or 'Wake Up'.
It seems to be Arcade Fire have moved past the mourning days of 'Funeral' and wanna be the band thats hosts your local bbq! I look forward to the Album which is out in the first week of August.
8.0/10
On a side note, I'm diggin' 'Laredo' by Band of Horses at the moment, the intro reminds me of 'Cheat on Me' by the Cribs. Its a catchy alt-rock tune you should check out... and I've been told their older stuff is even better... must remind myself to have a listen!

the suburbs is such a relief for their third album. Its like they have moved into a new space- funeral and neon bible were great but they had a certain weight to them. you got a sense that the band were dealing through something...big. and if "the suburbs" can be described as anything its refreshing.
